CAP Nepal is a non governmental organization established with the objective to eliminate gender based violence on women and girls in Nepal. We focus on four themes of violence against women: socio-cultural abuse, sexual exploitation, labour exploitation and political oppression.

Our objective is to educate the community on the importance of empowering women, children and socially discriminated people. We organize educational activities to teach people about the existing  human rights violations of women. We conduct research/studies on emerging issues in many geographical areas of the country and work to solve such issues through the awareness promotion programs. We also provide community programs on contemporary health issues like HIV/AIDS, drug abuse and other unidentified diseases in the community.

Research

In September 2009 the chairperson of this organization delivered her second daughter. During the pregnancy she was given pressure to deliver a son. After the delivery there were subsequent experiences of threats and abuse from family member and relatives.  She realized the necessity of researching this specific and very prevalent form of gender based violence and advocating its removal from Nepali culture. With this realization she met some other women who had similar experiences but had kept their grief hidden for years. The three women were inspired to work together to eliminate gender based violence in the name of son preference from Nepal.

In March 2010 CAP Nepal began conducting research on the psychosocial, social and physical condition of women who have given birth to only/mostly daughters in Nepal. Our research is currently being conducted in eight ditrcits: Kathamndu, Kavre, Chitwan, Arghakhanchi, Rautahat, Jhapa, Parbat and Bardiya.
